Seventy-three percent of charities say they have seen a decline in contributions, and half say they expect to see revenue decline by more than 20 percent over the next year, according to a new global survey. Only 6 percent expect giving to increase.
CAF America, an organization that helps American donors and companies give to charities outside the United States, surveyed 880 organizations from 122 countries. The survey was conducted from April 30 to May 6.
Other findings:
- 54 percent of charities worldwide are providing services to people directly affected by the coronavirus.
- 29 percent have furloughed or laid off employees, while 17 percent have reduced salaries.
- 13 percent said they were forced to suspend their operations because their activities could not be carried out remotely, and 61 percent said they had to eliminate or suspend some of their regular programs and services.
- 15 percent of nonprofits have delayed paying bills.
