Foundation Requests for Proposals for Covid-19 Relief (April 27)

Here are notable new requests for proposals (RFPs) specifically for the Covid-19 outbreak, compiled by the Chronicle:

Frey Foundation of Minnesota

The Frey Foundation of Minnesota is accepting letters of inquiry from education groups in the Minneapolis and St. Paul metropolitan area. Innovative programs in K-12 schools that narrow the achievement gap will receive priority. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the foundation has loosened restrictions, and grant money may be used for programs or general operating support. Letters of inquiry are due June 15, with full applications due August 15.

Mother Cabrini Health Foundation

The Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is accepting letters of inquiry for its Coronavirus Emergency Support Grants from charities in New York State. The foundation has committed $50 million to support nonprofit organizations addressing the health-related needs of New Yorkers as a direct result of Covid-19. Grants will generally be worth more than $75,000 each, and eligible organizations should reside in New York State, have an annual budget over $750,000, and primarily serve state residents. Letters of inquiry are due May 4.

Poise Foundation

The Poise Foundation has created a new fund, with support from the Heinz Endowments and the Richard King Mellon Foundation, to provide grants to small and midsize organizations with black leaders who are responding to the needs of the black community in Pittsburgh during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Critical Community Needs Fund will provide grants between $5,000 and $25,000 to organizations that serve the most vulnerable people in the black community who live in the Pittsburgh region. Priority will be given to organizations that have a budget of no more than $600,000 and staff of 10 or fewer. The first round of applications will be reviewed on May 8 and then weekly until the fund is depleted.

Pallotine Foundation of Buckhannon

The Pallotine Foundation of Buckhannon is accepting proposals for grants from its Healthy Communities Initiative, which will make grants worth up to $25,000 each to organizations that serve the health needs of people in West Virginia’s Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster Counties. Emergency grants of $50,000 each have already been paid to the Mountaineer Food Bank and West Virginia Local Health. Applications are due April 30.

Public Service Enterprise Group Foundation

The Public Service Enterprise Group Foundation is accepting proposals for grants through its Neighborhood Covid-19 Pandemic RFP. Grants will range from $500 to $5,000. Eligible organizations must primarily serve residents of Salem, Burlington, and Gloucester Counties in New Jersey; Albany, N.Y.; or Bridgeport and New Haven, Conn. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis. Proposals are due by May 31.

TraceLink

TraceLink, a digital platform company for the life-sciences industry, will make $1 million in grants to charities involved in Covid-19 relief efforts. Eligible organizations should work in health care disaster and relief; research and development related to a treatment to the virus; mental health; education and technology; or supporting small businesses. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and all applications are due May 15.

United Way of Greater Newark

The Community Covid-19 Fund is providing aid, including food and delivery support, to address food insecurity in northern New Jersey during the coronavirus crisis. The fund, which has raised $4 million to date, was created in partnership with the City of Newark, Prudential Financial, the Victoria Foundation, the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, and Invest Newark. Food pantries and related organizations that work in Newark should submit a letter of interest.
