A New Diplomacy Think Tank Names Its First CEO; Philanthropy Roundtable Chooses New Leader (Transitions)

Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft

Lora Lumpe, an advocacy director for security sector governance at the Open Society Foundations, will become the first CEO of this new foreign-policy think tank in April.

The nonpartisan organization was founded last year with grants of $500,000 each from the Open Society Foundations and the Charles Koch Foundation. (The Koch grant is now funded through the Charles Koch Institute.) It aims to advance peaceful and diplomatic stances in world politics.

Americares

Jenny Goldstein, vice president of individual philanthropy, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief development officer.

The international health organization was No. 13 on the Chronicle’s private-support rankings of America’s Favorite Charities, after raising more than $1 billion in 2018.

Pact

Caroline Anstey has been chosen as the global organization’s next president and CEO. She is a consultant and senior adviser to several organizations, including the World Economic Forum, Inter-American Development Bank, and the Results for Development Institute.


Philanthropy Roundtable

Elise Westhoff will become its next president and CEO on June 1. Currently she is executive director of the Snider Foundation, a $163 million family foundation in Pennsylvania, and a member of the Philanthropy Roundtable’s board. She will succeed Adam Meyerson, who has led the group since 2001.

United Way Worldwide

Stan Little, who previously served as president of the SunTrust Foundation, has joined as chief experience officer, a new role at the nonprofit coalition.

Little wrote an article for the Chronicle last year to advise nonprofit groups on creating a financial-sustainability plan.

More New CEOs

Lori Dimun, chief operating officer and general manager, will now serve as acting president and CEO of the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater following the death of Patricia Barretto on March 3 from breast cancer. She was 45. Barretto became president and CEO of the Chicago theater group in 2017.

Kassandra Frederique, managing director of policy advocacy and campaigns at Drug Policy Alliance, will become its executive director in September.


Bob Giannino, CEO of uAspire, will become president and CEO of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley this summer. He succeeds Michael Durkin, who will retire in July after 43 years.

Jeanette Gisbert, deputy executive director of Volunteer New York, will be promoted to executive director, effective July 6. She will succeed Alisa Kesten, who is departing after 10 years in the role.

Jack Kliger, interim president and CEO of the Museum of Jewish Heritage — a Living Memorial to the Holocaust since last year, will continue in the role on a permanent basis. He also owns a media consulting firm, Kliger Enterprises.

Allison Pauletto, chief development officer at Friends of the Children’s chapter in Portland, Ore., will be the executive director of the newly established Friends of the Children-Southwest Washington chapter, based in Vancouver, Wash.

Jay Stroman will join the University of South Florida as senior vice president of advancement and alumni affairs and CEO of the USF Foundation on June 1. He is currently senior associate vice president for development and alumni relations at the University of Georgia.


John Wyble plans to join the Center for Development and Learning as president and CEO, effective August 1. He founded Leadership Concepts by Dr. Wyble, a Louisiana consulting firm for philanthropic groups.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The research group has made three new appointments to its senior leadership team.

Troy Dunmire, senior vice president of stores at Gap, has joined as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Lynn Godfrey will now be executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Most recently she was chief brand marketing and communications officer at Girl Scouts of the USA.

Dale Nissenbaum, general counsel at Brunswick Group, has been appointed executive vice president and general counsel.


Other Notable Appointments

Kevin Arnold, a program officer at the John Templeton Foundation, has been promoted to director of its Life Sciences department.

Andrew Benscoter, vice president of education and residential programs and CEO of Trinity Charter Schools, will now serve as chief education and growth officer of Upbring, a faith-based nonprofit group that works to end child abuse. In addition, Krystale Bezio, senior vice president of program operations and development at Upbring, has been promoted to chief program officer.

Nikki Brown-Booker, executive director at Easy Does It Emergency Services, has been hired as director of the Disability Inclusion Fund at Borealis Philanthropy. In addition, Shayla Robinson will serve as senior program associate for the Disability Inclusion Fund.

Whitney Estrin, deputy director of development, has been promoted to director of development at the Theatre Development Fund, in New York.

Michelle Lane has joined the National Park Foundation as vice president for government relations. Previously she worked on the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.


Humphreys Munai, chief operating officer at 350.org, has been appointed chief finance and operations officer at IslandWood.

Angela Palmer, a marketing consultant for nonprofit organizations in Arizona, has been named regional director for northern Arizona at the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits.

Courtney Rowe is now associate dean for external relations at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She most recently served as assistant dean for advancement at the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music and Colorado Shakespeare Festival.

Jen Sokoler, a human-rights lawyer who most recently was counsel in the Supreme Court and appellate-litigation practice at O’Melveny & Myers LLP, has joined the Clooney Foundation for Justice as its legal-advocacy director.

Emily Venderley, coordinator of university and development events at Purdue University at Fort Wayne, Ind., is now director of alumni relations.


Jenna Wachtmann was promoted to vice president at the Ball Brothers Foundation. She joined the Indiana grant maker in 2014 as a program officer.

Departures

Linda Childears will retire as president and CEO of the Daniels Fund on April 30. She has led the $1.4 billion foundation since 2005.

Alicia Philipp, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, is retiring after 43 years at the $1.1 billion community fund.

Legacy

Fred Adams, founder of the Utah Shakespeare Festival, died on February 6 at age 89. He was a theater professor in 1961 when he founded the arts group at what is now Southern Utah University.
