Lutheran World Relief CEO Will Also Lead IMA World Health Following Merger (Transitions)

Daniel Speckhard is now president and CEO of this global health group. He has been and will remain president and CEO of Lutheran World Relief as the two organizations merge. He succeeds Rick Santos at IMA, who has led the organization for nine years and will now serve as a senior adviser during the merger and CEO of IMA Innovations, a subsidiary of IMA World Health. The new group is currently known as Lutheran World Relief and IMA World Health.

American Enterprise Institute

Robert Doar, a fellow in poverty studies at the American Enterprise Institute, will serve as the conservative think tank’s next president, effective July 1. He succeeds Arthur Brooks, who is stepping down after 10 years. (See a Chronicle article about Brooks’s scholarly research on donor habits.)

Skillman Foundation

David McGhee has been promoted to associate vice president for organizational excellence and impact, a new role at the $478 million foundation. Previously, he was a program director who oversaw its economy and equity impact grant-making areas.

In addition, Robert Thornton retired on December 31 after 17 years leading the foundation’s safety and My Brother’s Keeper grant-making programs.

Jesse Beason, vice president for strategy and public affairs at Northwest Health Foundation, has been promoted to president and CEO.

Neil Hawkins, chief sustainability executive at Dow Chemical Company, will become president and chief operating officer of the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation on April 1.

Tara Hofmann, chief operating and organizational development officer at AFS-USA, has been promoted to president and CEO of this organization, which facilitates international cultural exchanges for young people.

Courtney Manuel, executive director for development at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, has been tapped as executive director of I Live Here I Give Here.

Tamieka Mosley, deputy director of the Southern Partners Fund, has been named director of Grantmakers for Southern Progress.

Mark Ryle, CEO of Project Open Hand, will become president of Saint Francis Foundation on March 1. This organization raises money to support Dignity Health Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, in San Francisco.

Herb Scannell, CEO of Mitú, a digital-media company for Latinos in Los Angeles, has joined Southern California Public Radio as president and CEO. He succeeds its founding president and CEO Bill Davis, who has retired.

Seth Schalet, CEO for Prevent Blindness Northern California, has been named CEO of Child Family and Community Services.

Other Notable Appointments

Gaylynn Burroughs, director of policy and research at the Feminist Majority and the Feminist Majority Foundation, has become senior policy counsel at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and its sister organization, the Leadership Conference Education Fund.

Shayne Doty has joined the Paley Center for Media as senior vice president for development. He was most recently managing director for philanthropy at the Asia Society.

Daphne Halpern, senior executive at the consulting firm CCS Fundraising, has been named vice president for institutional advancement at the Pratt Institute.

Raquel Hatter, deputy director at the Kresge Foundation, has been named managing director of its human-services grant-making program. She succeeds David Fukuzawa, who will now serve as managing director of the $3.9 billion foundation’s health program.

Ari Koehnen Sweeney, manager of Spotlight Education at the Hennepin Theatre Trust, has been promoted to director of education.

Beth Lowell, senior campaign director for illegal fishing and seafood fraud at Oceana, has been promoted to deputy vice president for U.S. campaigns.

Matthew Manfra, interim vice president for advancement at George Washington University, will become vice president for institutional advancement at Georgian Court University in March.

Gislaine Ngounou, chief program officer at Phi Delta Kappa International, has been appointed vice president for strategy and programs at the Nellie Mae Education Foundation.

Matthew Walhout, dean for research and scholarship and a professor of physics and astronomy at Calvin College, has been appointed vice president for natural sciences at the John Templeton Foundation.

Lily Zhang, controller at the Duke Endowment, has been promoted to associate director of data and analytics, a new position that will examine the foundation’s grant-making impact assessment and strategy development.
