Grants Roundup: Atlantic Philanthropies Gives $18 Million for Health Program at George Washington University

Editors Note: This story originally reported that Sentara Healthcare gave $130 million to Eastern Virginia Medical School. That item has been removed and the headline has been changed. A spokesman for the medical school said the transaction was not a grant but a “business agreement” between the two organizations.
Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Atlantic Philanthropies
$18 million to the George Washington University Health Workforce Institute for an international fellowship program in health equity at the Milken Institute School of Public Health. The foundation endowed the fellowships in 2016 with a $6 million grant.
Barnett and Annalee Newman Foundation
$10 million to the Jewish Museum to endow a curatorial position in contemporary art. In addition to the cash grant, the foundation also gave the New York museum a collection of artworks by Barnett Newman, Jasper Johns, and other artists.
PepsiCo Foundation
$10 million to the Recycling Partnership for a campaign to make municipal recycling easier for 25 million households nationwide.
JPMorgan Chase
$3 million to Prosperity Now for a joint program to strengthen nonprofit organizations led by people of color in Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New Orleans, and Wilmington, Del.
Simmons Bank
$2.5 million to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to upgrade its football and baseball athletics facilities.
Walter S. & Evan C. Jones Testamentary Trust
$1.5 million to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo for its campaign to build new animal exhibits, improve its parking lot, and expand the zoo’s education center.
Wayne Densch Charities
$1 million to LIFT Orlando for health and wellness programs within a mixed-income residential community and low-cost senior housing.
Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska
$1 million grant to Covenant House Alaska to offer housing, behavioral health services, and job-skills training for homeless people ages 18 to 24.
VF Foundation
$1 million to the Outdoor Foundation for its campaign to encourage families to play and exercise outside.
New Grant Opportunity
The Provident Bank Foundation is accepting letters of intent to apply for grants worth up to $25,000 each. Nonprofit organizations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania that provide services for health, youths, and families can apply for funding in the areas of outpatient medical care or housing. Letters of intent are due August 15.
