Tax legislation is high on the agenda for Independent Sector this year, according to Dan Cardinali, CEO of Independent Sector, who recently stopped by the Chronicle’s office. The organization will continue to advocate for the universal deduction, so that anyone can deduct a charitable gift, no matter their income.
It also wants Congress to know how last year’s sweeping new tax law is affecting nonprofits. “We’re actually partnering with a number of our large organizations, and they’re willing to share their data with us so that we can provide Congress with the impact in real time of the tax law.”
Among his other priorities are keeping the restrictions on nonprofit politicking, known as the Johnson Amendment, pushing for proper oversight of the nonprofit world, and organizing conferences every other month in different cities.
