New Chiefs at Communities Foundation of Texas and Lincoln Center

Communities Foundation of Texas

David Scullin, a retired businessman who has worked with several Fortune 500 clients, was named chief executive.

Mr. Scullin, who held executive positions at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen, will take up the post in January. He succeeds Brent Christopher, who led the foundation for almost 11 years and now heads the Children’s Medical Center Foundation.

The Communities Foundation of Texas is one of the largest foundations in the nation, earning it a place on The Chronicle’s Philanthropy 400. In 2009, it created the annual North Texas Giving Day, which raised $37 million on behalf of 2,500 nonprofits in September.

Council on Foundations

Chris Gates, a senior adviser to the organization, was appointed executive vice president for external affairs, a new position created to advocate for the field of philanthropy. Mr. Gates previously helmed Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

Debora Spar was named the venue’s chief executive officer. She has served since 2008 as president of led Barnard College.


America’s Charities

James Starr will lead the nonprofit as chief executive. He has served as interim chief executive since June, when Steve Delfin stepped down as CEO.

Darkness to Light

Katelyn Brewer, chief of operations at the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, was appointed chief executive.

Easter Seals Serving DC|MD|VA

Jonathan Horowitch. chief operating officer at the nonprofit, was promoted to CEO. He succeeds Lisa Reeves, who is retiring from the post after 17 years.

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters

Staci Croom-Raley, vice president for workforce development at Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, will be executive director.

Jobs for the Future

Maria Flynn, senior vice president at the nonprofit, was promoted to chief executive officer.


San Francisco Art Institute

Gordon Knox, former director of the Arizona State University Art Museum, was named president.

Other notable appointments:

James Gerhardt has been appointed chief advancement officer at the Corning Museum of Glass. He held the same post at National Museum of American Jewish History.

Jennifer McNeely was named development manager at Fight Like a Girl Foundation. Ms. McNeely founded Ashley’s Hope, which helps families with children who have long-term illnesses.

Departures:

Sammye Pokryfki, senior vice president at the Rasmuson Foundation, will step down.

Legacy:

Sue Miller, who volunteered at the United Way of Miami-Dade for almost 40 years, died from complications from brain cancer on November 10. She was 81.


Ms. Miller helped to create United Way’s Million Dollar Roundtable for seven-figure donors in Miami. She was the widow of Leonard Miller, who cofounded development company Lennar Corporation.
