Bill Clinton Will Weigh Foundation Change if Hillary Is Elected

Bill Clinton said Tuesday that he will rethink his role at the Clinton Foundation if his wife is elected president, writes The Wall Street Journal. His comments at an Atlanta meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, a foundation offshoot, marked his first public acknowledgment of potential changes at the charity if Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, wins in November.

“You have to be careful to avoid actual and potential conflicts of interest,” the former president said. “We’ll think very clearly about it and we’ll do the right thing and explain it to the American people.” Ms. Clinton’s campaign has been dogged by Republican assertions that foreign and corporate donors to the foundation sought to influence U.S. policy when she served as secretary of state.

Mr. Clinton did not say Tuesday how the foundation would shift if Ms. Clinton enters the White House. Asked during a question-and-answer session whether he would step down from the charity, he said, “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. If she wins, we will have to think about it.”
