June 1, 2016
Y Combinator, one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent business accelerators, will conduct a pilot study in Oakland, Calif., of providing people with enough money to cover basic liviing costs as a means of alleviating poverty, Fortune reports.
The pilot program, which will include fewer than 100 people and run for six to 12 months, will help researchers develop methodology for a bigger study.
A group called GiveDirectly has been testing the basic-income idea in East Africa.
