L.A. Giving Has Yet to Recover From Recession, Study Finds

Individual giving to nonprofits in Los Angeles County has fallen 15 percent since the recession, according to an upcoming study by the California Community Foundation and the University of California at Los Angeles, two university researchers write in a Los Angeles Times column.

Households that regularly give to charity are contributing $1 billion less than they did before 2007, and wealthy Angelenos are donating a smaller percentage of their income to charity, the study found. Reduced giving has strained local nonprofits that provide necessary social services, according to the research.
