Tacoma Museum Receives $14 Million and 225 Artworks
January 19, 2016
Becky Benaroya, the widow of the Seattle-based real-estate developer Jack Benaroya gave the Tacoma Art Museum in Washington 225 works from various artists, The New York Times reports.
Ms. Benaroya also donated nearly $14 million to help build an addition to house the art, which includes works in glass, paintings, and sculptures by Northwestern and international artists. The new gallery will open in 2018.
The gift will also fund an endowment and will help with the cost of a dedicated curator.
The late Mr. Benaroya supported medical research and the arts, including $15 million to the Seattle Symphony in 1993.
