Following Supreme Court Ruling, Freedom to Marry Will Shut Its Doors
July 31, 2015
Following the Supeme Court’s June decision to legalize same-sex marriage,
Freedom to Marry, the nonprofit that spent the past 12 years advocating for the cause, will shut it doors, The Washington Post reports.
Because the group was always focused on this single issue campaign, Evan Wolfson, the organization’s founder and president, and his 30 staff members now find themselves happily without jobs. Many will continue to work for other gay rights causes.
Read Mr. Wolfson’s op-ed in The Chronicle about how philanthropy propelled the marriage-equality movement through long-term, flexible support.
