9 Charity Workers Are Latest Among 100,000 Killed in Afghanistan

June 3, 2015

Nine Afghans working working on reconstruction projects for a Czech charity in Afghanistan were killed by militants on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.

All nine worked for People in Need. The charity said it would suspend its operations in the country, where it has worked for 12 years.

A new Brown University study cited in the article warned that almost 100,000 people have been killed and another 100,000 wounded in Afghanistan since the U.S.-led invasion in 2001. Annual figures for those killed and wounded in the country have been on the rise.
