Clinton Foundation Donors Buttress Hillary’s Campaign

Tuesday’s launch of fundraising for Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid shows the overlap between her political effort and her family’s charitable work, according to the Associated Press. The campaign held events in New York co-hosted by Richard C. Perry, a hedge-fund executive who has given $250,000 to $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation, and Alan Patricof, head of finance for Ms. Clinton’s Senate campaigns, who with his wife has donated $100,000 to $250,000 to the charity.
In the coming days Ms. Clinton will raise money in Washington and California alongside several multimillion-dollar Clinton Foundation donors. A former leading foundation fundraiser, Dennis Cheng, now holds a similar role with the Clinton campaign.
The foundation has been dogged by controversy over its ties to foreign donors and agreed last week to refile several years’ worth of tax returns to correct errors in disclosing such gifts. While the foundation itself has pledged to identify contributors, an affiliated charity, the Canada-based Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership, has not disclosed the identities of more than 1,000 donors, according to The Washington Post.
A Clinton Foundation official said Canadian law prevents charities in that country from publicly naming contributors without their permission. One identified donor to the partnership is a Canadian mining executive whose company sought U.S. government approval of its sale to a Russian state agency during Ms. Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.
