J.K. Rowling Opens U.S. Branch of Her Charity for Children

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series opened the U.S. branch of her children’s nonprofit, Lumos, this month, according to The Washington Post.
Lumos, which aims to keep kids out of orphanages and group homes, is expanding its work from central and eastern Europe to the Caribbean and South America. The author says she hopes Americans will contribute to its work in places like Haiti.
