Major-Gift Fundraising

David Geffen Donates $100 Million to Renovate Avery Fisher Hall

Music and entertainment mogul David Geffen is giving $100 million to the Lincoln Center to renovate Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic, reports The New York Times. The concert hall will be named for Mr. Geffen, who is giving the lead gift toward a renovation project expected to cost more than $500 million.

In November, Lincoln Center officials made a deal with the heirs of Avery Fisher, who was the hall’s 1970s-era patron and namesake, to allow the venue to take on a new donor’s name for fundraising purposes. Under the terms of that deal, the heirs received $15 million and a promise that the Fisher name would continue to be displayed at the hall.
