Shadowy Nonprofits Emerge to Fuel Last-Minute Campaign Push

November 3, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

A number of mysterious nonprofits and “super PACs” have popped up in recent weeks, pumping millions into political campaigns as Election Day nears according to The New York Times. They include groups like the Council for American Job Growth, a New Hampshire nonprofit that will spend at least $1-million on behalf of Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

A Times analysis uncovered 90 super PACs that did not spend any money until October, 18 of which didn’t even exist until September. Many appear solely to be turnstiles for advertising money. Thanks to this jolt of last-second cash, outside spending on campaign races reached $20-million a day last week.
