A U.S. District judge has dismissed Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley’s lawsuit challenging the refusal of federal mortgage agencies to sell foreclosed homes to nonprofits that want to return them to the previous owners, reports The Boston Globe.
Judge Richard G. Stearns issued a ruling Tuesday on the case, which became national news when Ms. Coakley brought it in June and briefly roiled the Massachusetts governor’s race, in which she is the Democratic candidate.
In an article last week, the Globe reported that the suit could serve the interests of Boston Community Capital, a housing nonprofit led by Elyse Cherry, a Coakley campaign official. Ms. Cherry denied any personal or institutional benefit from the suit. A Boston magazine editor sought to debunk the Globe article in a column earlier this week.
