Arrillaga-Andreessen: Youth and Technology Herald Change in Giving

September 8, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Philanthropist and educator Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen talks to The Wall Street Journal about the galvanic impact of generational and technological shifts on how people give. Ms. Arrillaga-Andreessen, who introduced philanthropy to academia when she joined the Stanford University business faculty in 2000, is embarking on her first Massive Online Open Course, or MOOC, a free, six-week online program.

In the Journal interview, the wife of tech entrepreneur Marc Andreessen says mobile phones and social networks are globalizing giving, particularly among millennials who increasingly seek to mix social impact into their professional lives. Technology is “collapsing the physical barriers between us just like the MOOC is collapsing the physical walls of the classroom,” she says.
