World Trade Center Foundation Takes Reins of 9/11 Commemoration

September 4, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center Foundation will take the lead in planning this year’s commemorative ceremony marking the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Previously, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration handled all such ceremonies. Mr. Bloomberg is the chairman of the World Trade Center Foundation, which opened the museum at the site of the downed Twin Towers in May.

A spokeswoman for current Mayor Bill de Blasio says that he agreed to hand over the reigns and that the city will continue to be a collaborator in the ceremony. This month’s event is expected to mirror those in the recent years.
