A charity that gave $6.2-million to endow a faculty position at Cambridge University is run by family members of China’s former prime minister, according to The Telegraph.
In 2012, the Chong Hua Foundation made a gift to establish the Chong Hua chair, dedicated to Chinese development studies. The endowment was vetted by a university committee. The money originated with a trust in Bermuda and has no ties to the Chinese government, university officials maintain.
But according to an investigation by The Telegraph, the Chong Hua Foundation is lead by Wen Ruchun, the daughter of Wen Jiabao, the former prime minister of China. In addition, the first person to hold the newly created position at Cambridge is academic Peter Nolan, Ms. Wen’s former professor.
