Pharma Executive Gives $30-Million to Duke U. Engineering School

Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering received a $30-million donation Tuesday from pharmaceuticals executive J. Michael Pearson and his wife, Christine, The Herald-Sun of Durham, N.C., and Triangle Business Journal report.
The gift will primarily support interdisciplinary programs, including collaborations between the Pratt School and Duke’s Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. Interdisciplinary projects are a priority in the university’s $3.25-billion Duke Forward campaign.
Mr. Pearson, the CEO of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, studied engineering at Duke and graduated in 1981. He currently serves on the board of the university’s Fuqua School of Business. Ms. Pearson earned a nursing degree from Duke in 1984.
