$25-Million Gift Boosts U. of Kansas Medical-School Expansion

May 22, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

A $25-million gift from the family behind Hallmark Cards will enable the University of Kansas to move forward on a long-sought new building for medical education, The Kansas City Star writes.

The donation from the Hall Family Foundation covers a third of the projected cost of the new facility on the university’s Kansas City campus. The rest will come from the university, funds to be raised by its endowment, and construction bonds approved last month by the state legislature.

Expanding the University of Kansas Medical Center has been a top priority for university officials, who have seen the center’s accreditation threatened due to outdated facilities. The new building will allow the center to increase enrollment and move student from 1970s-era lecture halls into small teams with greater access to modern equipment.
