The Make-A-Wish Foundation, whose projects to help ill children achieve cherished goals often involve extensive travel, is launching a campaign to encourage fliers to donate air miles to the cause, The New York Times writes in its travel blog.
Donors can contribute miles on United, Delta, and US Airways to cover some of the 14,000 wishes the charity arranges annually for children up to 18 who are facing life-threatening illnesses. About 10,000 of those wishes involve travel with the child’s family, adding up to about 50,000 tickets a year.
The Make-A-Wish campaign, which begins Wednesday, is targeting occasional as well as frequent fliers, particularly if they have miles that are set to expire. The participating airlines will extend the life of expiring miles indefinitely if they are donated to the foundation.
