Maker of Breast-Cancer-Awareness Products Jailed for Alleged New Scam

January 31, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

A Colorado man authorities say collected some $2-million by misleading purchasers of breast-cancer-awareness merchandise into believing they were contributing to charities was sentenced to 14 days in jail Thursday for allegedly engaging in a similar scheme in violation of a court order, reports the Denver Post.

A Denver judge found that Adam Cole Shryock violated the terms of a July 2013 settlement of a state lawsuit over his private firms’ sale of T-shirts and other items with the message Boobies Rock! The agreement prohibited Mr. Shryock from selling merchandise, collecting money, or promoting events on behalf of any group claiming to be a charity.

The suit alleged Mr. Shryock hired models to sell Boobies Rock! merchandise in bars, telling customers a large part of the revenue would go to cancer groups. The Colorado attorney general’s office said he launched a new scheme in August, selling T-shirts reading “I [Heart] This Bar,” ostensibly to raise money for a scholarship fund. Mr. Shryock was ordered to begin serving the sentence on Friday.
