Recent research indicating that Teach for America teachers are as effective in the classroom as their more experienced peers is summarized by The Washington Post.
Writing in the Post’s policy blog Wonkblog, Dylan Matthews says an evaluation released Tuesday by Mathematica Policy Research that covered more than 4,500 students in eight states buttresses past studies showing Teach for America instructors are no less effective than traditional teachers in some categories and are better than other teachers in math.
Critics of the education nonprofit, which recruits recent college graduates to teach in low-income school districts, have said their lack of experience hurts students.
