Minn. Nonprofits Face ‘Disarray’ as Shutdown Drags On

Virtually all of Minnesota’s 35,000 charities have made cutbacks as the toll of the state’s two-week-old budget impasse grows, a leading advocate tells USA Today.
“It’s really hard on the people who rely on our services,” said Christine Durand, spokesman for the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. “Nonprofits don’t run on air.”
Most charities in the state faced a cutoff in aid on July 1 when lawmakers and the governor failed to adopt a budget for the new fiscal year. Some exceptions have been made for services deemed essential.
