Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City Names New Executive Director; More Comings and Goings From the Nonprofit World

American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis): Appointed Emily Callahan, senior vice president for global marketing and networks at Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Dallas), to be chief marketing officer, a newly created position, and Sara Hall, vice president at the Shelby County Airport Authority (Memphis), to be chief legal officer.

American Kidney Fund (Rockville, Md.): Appointed J. Logan (Skip) Seitz, founder of Chord Partners, a fund-raising consultancy in Washington, to be vice president of development and field operations.

American Red Cross in Greater New York: Appointed Vikki L. Pryor, president of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company (New York), to be chief executive officer.

Arizona State U. Foundation for a New American University (Tempe): Appointed Jane DiFolco Parker, former vice president for operations in the office of development and alumni relations at Emory U. (Atlanta), to be senior vice president and chief operating officer.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra: Appointed Sandy Smith, interim vice president for institutional advancement and learning, to be vice president for development.


Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City: Appointed Hector Batista, chief executive officer of Way to Work (New York), formerly known as the Vocational Foundation, to be executive director.

Charlottesville Symphony (Va.): Appointed Lorie A. Hoover, director of advancement services at Lynchburg College (Va.), to be director of development.

Cleveland Museum of Art: Appointed August A. Napoli Jr., president and chief operating officer of the Summa Foundation (Akron, Ohio), the fund-raising arm of Summa Health System, to be chief advancement officer.

Issue Project Room (Brooklyn, N.Y.): Appointed Ed Patuto, vice president for institutional advancement at Saybrook U. (San Francisco), to be executive director. This group champions experimental artists. (See article.)

Mercy Corps (Portland, Ore.): Appointed Jeremy Barnicle, vice president of marketing and communications, to be chief development and communications officer, and Paul Dudley-Hart, senior vice president of resource development, to be senior vice president for global partnerships and alliances, a newly created position.


OMB Watch (Washington): Announced the resignation of Gary D. Bass, executive director, effective no later than fall of 2011. He will become executive director of the Bauman Foundation (Washington).

Schott Foundation for Public Education (Cambridge, Mass.): Appointed Rick Ellis, media campaign director for the Voices and Choices project at America Speaks (Washington), to be director of communications.

Villanova U. (Pa.): Appointed William J. Green, director of major gifts for the School of Medicine at the U. of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia), to be associate vice president for development and major gifts.

World Learning (Washington): Appointed Lisa D. Gurwitch, former executive director for the Jewish Community Endowment Fund at the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, to be senior vice president for institutional advancement and external relations. World Learning sends young people abroad on academic and cultural exchanges that explore global issues.

YWCA USA (Washington): Appointed Gloria Lau, former chief executive officer of Charles Schwab Tokio Marine (Tokyo), to be interim chief executive officer. She succeeds Lorraine Cole, who has resigned.

Alcoa Foundation (Pittsburgh): Appointed Stephanie A. Wolcott, former content director at KIN Global (Evanston, Ill.), to be principal manager for social responsibility and community outreach.

Bank of America (Charlotte, N.C.): Appointed Kenneth D. Wade, chief executive officer of NeighborWorks America (Washington), to be senior community affairs executive.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Seattle): Appointed Stefanie Sanford, deputy director of U.S. Program Advocacy for the foundation, to be director of advocacy and policy for the United States Program, overseeing policy and finance efforts for its programs in education, libraries in the United States, the Pacific Northwest, and special initiatives. She succeeds Greg Shaw, who will become a senior adviser for strategic partnerships.

Charles Stewart Mott Foundation (Flint, Mich.): Appointed Mark Abbott, director of grant operations at the United States Election Assistance Commission (Washington), to be program director of its Pathways Out of Poverty effort; Gwynn Hughes, executive director of the Massachusetts Afterschool Partnership (Boston), to be a program officer for Mott’s grant making related to after-school efforts; Alicia Kitsuse, a recent recipient of a doctorate in urban planning from the U. of Southern California (Los Angeles), to be a program officer for its Flint-area grant making; and Jennifer Liversedge, a mechanical engineer and patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Alexandria, Va.), to be assistant to the foundation’s president and program officer for its Exploratory and Special Initiatives grant making.


The Colorado Trust (Denver): Appointed Phillip Chung, a research and evaluation consultant for the department of health and behavioral sciences at the U. of Colorado at Denver, to be assistant director for research, evaluation, and strategic learning, and Sabrina D’Agosta, deputy communications director for Mayor John Hickenlooper, of Denver, to be senior communications officer.

Community First Foundation (Denver): Appointed Marla J. Williams, a partner at Holme Roberts & Owen (Denver), to be chief executive officer. She succeeds Kenneth Eggeman, who plans to retire.

Dade Community Foundation (Miami): Appointed Nancy Jones, chief communications officer at the Community Foundation of Broward (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), to be vice president for public affairs and communications.

Houston Endowment: Appointed Meghna Goswami, client-services coordinator at Daya (Houston), a group that helps South Asian women and children affected by family violence and sexual assault, to oversee its human-services grant making.

Open Society Institute-Baltimore: Appointed Christopher W. Shea, clinical director at Father Martin’s Ashley (Havre de Grace, Md.), a drug-addiction treatment center, to be program officer for its Tackling Drug Addiction project.


Princeton Area Community Foundation (Lawrenceville, N.J.): Appointed Elizabeth B. Wagner, principal at J.C. Geever (New York), a fund-raising firm, to be vice president for development.
