Annual Report Gets Video-Game Feel

September 6, 2010 | Read Time: 1 minute

VolunteerMatch saved $12,000 taking its annual report online in an unusual presentation that makes reading the report feel like playing a video game. The San Francisco charity used a new technology tool called Prezi to give the report zoom effects for text and photos. “It makes it so much easier to carry a narrative to your storytelling and presentation,” says Greg Baldwin, president of VolunteerMatch. “There’s movement built into the system. It’s a more engaging way to tell a story.”

VolunteerMatch bought an annual subscription to the Prezi technology for $60, which is a special rate for nonprofit groups.

While the online presentation saved printing and postage costs, the primary motivation for the change was getting the organization’s information out to more people, the charity official says.

“Nobody really reads annual reports,” says Mr. Baldwin.
