20 Tips Every Strategic Grant Seeker Should Know, by Jonathan Peizer, offers a grant maker’s perspective on how foundations give money. Mr. Peizer, a consultant and former chief technology officer and director of the Open Society Institute’s Internet Program, provides tips on bringing proposal budgets in line with donor expectations, developing new ideas that will catch a foundation’s eye, and building and maintaining relationships with foundation program officers. He also gives advice on negotiating tricky “catch 22″ situations, such as requesting support for a future project “only to be told that the donor needs evidence of the project’s existence or impact before it can consider supporting it.”
