Will Corporate Giving Rise in 2008?

April 25, 2008 | Read Time: 1 minute

According to a new report by the Foundation Center, corporate foundations increased their grant making by 7 percent in 2007 and more than half of them expect to raise the giving this year.

But Tom Durso, author of the 501cFiles blog, is a little dubious that during an economic recession that corporations will increase their philanthropy budgets.

“That sounds to me as if America’s corporate foundation directors didn’t want to sound … heartless … and tell surveyors the truth — that tightened belts pinch a lot of waistlines, and that nonprofits better be prepared to hear ‘Sorry, we can’t’ more often than they did last year,” he writes.

What do you think? Does the report paint too rosy a picture for corporate giving in 2008? What has been your experience with raising money from companies this year?
