Burned Shelter Raises Over $300,000 in a Week
April 16, 2007
Less than a week after its animal shelter burned down — an event that drew national news coverage — the Jacksonville Humane Society has raised more than $300,000 to help rebuild its gutted headquarters, reports The Florida Times-Union.
The fire took place over Easter weekend and killed 85 animals.
In less than a week, the organization raised a considerable fraction of the $1-million in total donations it raised in 2006.
The $300,000 figure does not include online and out-of-state donations, which are still being tallied. An updated total should be available later in the week.
