Fraud Found to Be Widespread in Katrina Claims

Hundreds of people have been charged with making fraudulent claims for Katrina aid from charities and the government, reports the Associated Press.
The Red Cross says that 104 people have been charged with defrauding the charity and 86 have been convicted thus far. It has managed to recoup $2.6-million in excessive payments and false claims, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, more than 600 people in 22 states have been charged with fraud in seeking aid from the federal government.
