British Comedian Spoofs for Charity

March 21, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

More than 145,000 people have watched an online video fund-raising appeal that pokes fun at celebrity fund raising.

The 8-minute video is a spoof on the growing number of celebrities who travel to foreign countries to humanize the people who will benefit from a donor’s gift.

The video features the comedian Ricky Gervais and was made for the charity Comic Relief to use on Red Nose Day, an event that raised more than $90-million for charities in Britain and Africa. (For more about Red Nose Day and other events that gather lots of people to contribute small sums, read this article from The Chronicle of Philanthropy.)

The video is available at YouTube, and several bloggers have included it on their sites.
