Donors Increasingly Seek Philanthropic Education

A growing crop of today’s donors are no longer content with “checkbook philanthropy,” but seek a more active role in giving away their money, reports The New York Times.
Philanthropists are taking more involved roles in charitable giving and seeking ways to learn more by taking part in workshops or hiring advisers, the paper says. Groups such as the Global Philanthropists Circle and Social Venture Partners International are tailoring classes and networking sessions to meet the demands of donors.
Private investment banks and financial-services companies have added philanthropic advising as part of their offerings as well.
