A breast cancer organization in St. Louis has been investigating its founder over a four-month period for possible financial problems at the organization, reports The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Michael B. Katz, who founded the Judy Ride Foundation in the late 1990s to honor his late mother, says he did nothing wrong and did not steal from the charity.
An officer with the organization declined to say how much money was in question. Mr. Katz tells the paper the group raised about $1.3-million from 1998 to 2005, and more than $900,000 of that paid for services for women, such as mammograms. The remainder went to a cancer center at a local hospital, Mr. Katz says.
