Habitat for Humanity Helps Storm Victims in Its Hometown

March 9, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

Thunderstorms and tornadoes causing $135-million worth of damage last week in Georgia have created work for the housing charity Habitat for Humanity in its hometown of Americus, reports the Associated Press.

The American Red Cross has estimated that 173 homes were destroyed and 198 were heavily damaged—including four Habitat houses—in Americus, where two people were killed in the storms. The Americus affiliate of Habitat plans to rebuild those four homes and to work with the Fuller Center for Housing to find shelter for people in need.

The Fuller Center was founded by Habitat founder Millard Fuller to build new homes and to repair existing ones.
