The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received a gift of $50-million from Dennis Gillings, chief executive officer of Quintiles Transnational Corporation, a pharmaceutical-research company in Durham, and his wife, Joan, reports The Herald-Sun,
in Durham.
The gift brings the university’s capital campaign to $2-billion, and will support programs, fellowships, and an award at the School of Public Health, which will be renamed in honor of the Gillingses. Mr. Gillings is also a former UNC biostatistics professor, and Mrs. Gillings has worked at the university’s School of Public Health.
The campaign, which was to close on December 31, is now extended to raise an additional $100-million for faculty support.
