Nonprofit Groups Promote ‘Fair Trade’ Chocolates
February 14, 2007
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, several charities have helped a chocolate company bring Ghanaian cocoa and other sweet treats to the United States, reports the Associated Press.
Investors in Divine Chocolate, a British company that sells “fair-trade chocolate,” include Lutheran World Relief, in Baltimore, and Oikocredit, a Dutch nonprofit organization. The company pays farmers a guaranteed minimum price for their cocoa beans in an effort to help lift them out of poverty.
