Turf War Between Fla. Groups Draws Criticism

A rivalry between two South Florida charities that help the elderly turned into an ugly public spat this week, reports The Palm Beach Post.
After a $235,000-a-year government contract was awarded to the Mae Volen Senior Center, the Ruth Rales Jewish Family Services sent e-mail messages to the mayor and several state and federal lawmakers in protest. The mayor said the decision to send the missives to other officials was a “veiled threat,” and Ruth Rales’s executive director said he now regrets sending them.
The turf war between the two groups has been brewing for some time. Mae Volen last year asked a court to stop its rival from receiving a state grant that Mae Volen had held for 26 years. The court has yet to decide the case.
