An internal report raises questions about the spending decisions by the executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, reports The Boston Globe.
Richard G.A. Feachem spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on limousines, meals, boat cruises, and other expenses, according to a report by the Global Fund’s inspector general.
The Fund has $7-billion in its coffers and supports programs in 136 countries. It has received $1.9-billion from the U.S. government and a grant of $650-million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Dr. Feachem declined to comment for the article. A spokesman for the Global Fund said the report was “of extraordinarily poor quality in terms of accuracy, context, and fairness.”
