Habitat for Humanity Project Draws Protests From Residents

January 19, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

A proposed Habitat for Humanity housing development has angered some residents of an affluent San Francisco suburb, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

The organization hopes to build four single-family homes for low-income families in Tiburon’s Eagle Rock neighborhood, but local residents plan to fight the development, citing concerns about increased traffic and the potential for decreased values of their properties.

This is not the first time Habitat for Humanity has had problems building in the wealthy suburbs outside San Francisco. The charity shut down a branch in Marin County because it failed to gather community support to build low-cost housing.
