The following awards have been presented for work in advocacy, fund raising, nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, and ot’her areas:

Community development. Enterprise Community Partners (Columbia, Md.) has presented its 2006 Jim and Patty Rouse Award to Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation (Chicago) and the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization (Cleveland). The award, which carries a $5,000 prize, recognizes outstanding community-based groups engaged in comprehensive affordable-housing and community-revitalization efforts.

Health. Grantmakers In Health (Washington) has presented its 2007 Terrance Keenan Leadership Award in Health Philanthropy to Mario Gutierrez, director of rural and agricultural worker health programs at the California Endowment, in Los Angeles. Mr. Gutierrez was recognized for his approach to grant making, which has unified laborers, farmers, and government agencies in collaborative efforts to benefit the health of farmworker communities.

Poverty. The Robin Hood Foundation (New York) has presented its annual Robin Hood Heroes Awards, which honor individuals and groups working to mitigate poverty in New York. Three organizations and affiliated individuals won awards that were accompanied by $50,000 grants:

— Dacia Toll and Doug McCurry, and Achievement First, which operates charter schools primarily for minority students in Connecticut and New York.


— Sister Mary Alice and Part of the Solution, which provides legal, medical, and mental-health services as well as meals and shelter for homeless people in New York.

— Hawthorne Smith and the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture, which provides therapy for refugees from more than 50 countries who seek asylum in New York.
