Indiana Seeks Funds From Foundation Leader’s Estate

November 6, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Indiana’s attorney general, Steve Carter, is demanding $394,045 from the estate of the deceased director of the Olin B. and Desta Schwab Foundation, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Mr. Carter says the director, Richard H. Blaich, misspent the foundation’s money on cars, clothing, electronics, and food, reports The Associated Press.

Mr. Blaich was president of the foundation until January, when he resigned after revelations that the organization had spent $1.5-million on a luxury home in Las Vegas and other items. Mr. Blaich died in February.

The Allen County Superior Court approved Mr. Carter’s request to open Mr. Blaich’s estate, and will allow the state to demand money from assets Mr. Blaich left behind. The state plans to investigate the activities of other former board members of the foundation.
