Obituary: Enolia P. McMillan, 102, former NAACP head

The first female president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Enolia P. McMillan, died October 24 at her Maryland home at the age of 102, reports The Sun in Baltimore.
Ms. McMillan was a teacher who fought for equal pay for black teachers and better schools for black students, the Sun reports. The daughter of a former slave, she helped reactivate the Baltimore chapter of the NAACP and was instrumental in moving its national headquarters to Baltimore from New York 20 years ago.
Elected president of the Baltimore chapter in 1969, Ms. McMillan became president of the national organization in 1984.
