Hospitals Reach Out to Uninsured Patients

In an effort to cut costs associated with treating people with chronic illnesses, some hospitals have begun providing free preventive care, reports The New York Times.
Hospital systems in New York and Denver have started directing uninsured patients to community clinics that charge low fees or nothing at all for basic care. Some hospitals, such as those affiliated with Seton Family of Hospitals, use donations and profits to pay for the uninsured.
Over 46 million Americans lack health insurance.
