Public-Service Group Receives $20-Million From Founder

October 24, 2006

The businessman Samuel J. Heyman has given $20-million to the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit organization he founded in 2001, reports The Washington Post.

The group, based in Washington, encourages college graduates to pursue careers in government.

Mr. Heyman worked in the Justice Department of the Kennedy Administration until 1968, when he left to head a family real-estate company. He is now chief executive officer of Heyman Properties, in Westport, Conn., and chairman of International Specialty Products, a chemical company.

Of the $20-million gift, half will go into the endowment.
