Charities Benefit After a Congressman’s Resignation
October 3, 2006
Republican candidates who received donations from Mark Foley, the Congressman who resigned on Friday, have been giving the money to charities to avoid being tainted by scandal, reports The Hill, in Washington.
Mr. Foley resigned amid allegations that he sent sexually explicit messages to male Congressional pages over the years, including some who were younger than 18.
Charities that benefited from the sudden donations included several child-protection groups.
So far, seven Republicans in Congress have either returned or donated money from Mr. Foley, the newspaper said.
