Paul Newman Opens Restaurant to Support Theater

September 27, 2006

Paul Newman, best known as a legendary Hollywood actor, has recently opened a restaurant to raise money for the Westport Country Playhouse, reports The New York Times.

Mr. Newman’s wife, the actress Joanne Woodward, is the Playhouse’s artistic director. The theater underwent an $18-million renovation last year.

Revenues from the restaurant, named Dressing Room, will help support the theater.

Mr. Newman is no stranger to the food industry. His Newman’s Own food company has given $220-million to charity since its founding in 1982.
