Yeshiva University has received $100-million from Ronald P. Stanton, the founder of Transammonia Inc., a New York company that distributes fertilizers and other petrochemicals internationally, The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. Mr. Stanton is the longest-serving member of the university’s board.
The gift will create the Ronald P. Stanton Legacy, a fund created to support undergraduate and Jewish education.
Richard M. Joel, Yeshiva’s president, said the terms of the gift are confidential, but added that Mr. Stanton had put few restrictions on its use. Mr. Joel said one goal is that the money will inspire other gifts.
Once portions of the Stanton money are used for facilities, faculty programs, research, and scholarships, the university hopes other donors will replenish the fund.
